Dilmun was an ancient holy land and part of a trade route between the Indus Valley and Mesopotamia. Evidence about Dilmun in the stone age comes from flint tools and weapons. From later periods, it comes from cuneiform tablets, cylinder seals, pottery and correspondence between rulers. When the Indus Valley lost its importance in the middle of the second millennium B.C., Dilmun, too, lost its importance. In the eighth century B.C. Dilmun was a vassal of Assyria and by 600 B.C., Dilmun was part of the Neo-Babylonian Empire.
Dilmun may have been the location of the Garden of Eden and was described as paradise in the Epic of Gilgamesh.
